Of all the people I thought I'd share a bus with on a journey home, Jeffrey Lewis was certainly one I totally didn't expect, and yet on Wednesday evening I shared a bus to from Oxford St to Stoke Newington with that man. Totally, totally bizarre.
I think I actually love him.

Cartoon Shorts Club
A brilliant cartoon channel on YouTube, with some wonderful (mainly old Disney-made) shorts. They don't make'em like the used to. SO brilliant and funny. The animation's imaginative, using some really great looping techniques, and the synchronization with the music is flawless.
Here's "The Beach Party" from 1931 to wet your appetite. The visual gags are so good, and they just keep on coming.

School of Seven Bells
I can't get enough of them at the moment. I don't think "Alpinisms" been off my iTunes for the past 2 weeks.
Seriously addictive, beautiful stuff. I'm very excited to see them support Bat For Lashes in April. It should be pretty special.

Zero
Here's the artwork for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs new single "Zero".
Eyeballs are very much "in" at the moment it seems.
This is SO frickin' sweet. From hearing the track, they seem to have definitely waved goodbye to their garage-rock beginings, and evolved into a Blondie-style synth-pop outfit. Despite loosing their "dirty-sex-beast-orgasm-five-times-during-each-song-whilst-kicking-your-face-in" edge that Karen's voice once had, that kind of freshness was only going to last a short amount of time anyway. Constantly evolving and never staying still is definitely the way to go.
You can hear the new track NOW on their MySpace.

Pretty sweet huh!?
I found this via weheartit.com. I'd thoroughly recommend a visit, and set up your own account while you're there.

Keith Schofield
Keith was signed to Blink Productions a few months ago, and first turned my (and lots of other people's) head with his videos for Diesel "SFW XXX" and BPA "Toe Jam" (along with other amazing promos such as Supergrass "Bad Blood" and Goose "British Mode"). In fact he's done so much good stuff, I think the best thing you can do is just go to his website RIGHT NOW and check it all out.
He's rising onwards and upwards, and is pretty boiling hot right now.
Here's his latest offering; MIMS "Move (If You Wanna)"

RC MAYDAY Crash Investigation
The BBC seriously need to commission this into a series.
Mat McCallum presents a true story of how a day out RC'ing can descend in a real life drama; where the determination of the human spirit battles face to face with the cruelty of nature.
Thanks to Simon Willows for forwarding me this one.

Dan Eatock
I think it's physically impossibly not to enjoy Dan Eatock's work.
A non-stop genius idea making machine. He proficiency to produce brilliant, contemporary, and fun design is absolutely astounding. A perfect antidote to this very rainy Monday morning.

Textured Billboards
Ian Wright
No, not the footballer, but the illustrator. He was my final year tutor when I was studying at Brighton University, and I can safely say I wouldn't be where I am today without him. He's a very motivated man, and produces some truly exceptional work.
Oh, if you can talk about music, he's your friend for life.
I absolutely love this illustration for T.I.'s "Paper Trail" album he did last year.
I love this billboard poster as well.

RIP Lux Interior
It is with great sadness that I heard that Lux Interior, front man of New York punk band The Cramps has died yesterday (4th Feb) at the age of 60.
Interior (who's real name was Erick Lee Purkhiser) passed away at Glendale Memorial Hospital in California due to a previously existing heart condition.
To commemorate I thought I'd post up an example of some of their killer album artwork they've had over the years. Here's the 3D LP sleeve for "Off The Bone".

Verity Keniger
Yet again, we seem to have a running theme this week, for lovely people and lovely work.
Here's the work of Verity Keniger, a recent Brighton graduate.
I met Verity a few years ago on a trip to New York. We sat on the flight together, starting complete strangers, having a good ol' bond on the long flight over, and we've been friends ever since. Awww.

James Hobson
James has been a long term friend for nearly 5 years now (in fact, we've lived together for 4 of those). He's just updated his online portfolio, and it's well worth a look.
After studying together in Brighton I was always impressed by his unique take on a graphic design brief. Pushing the boundaries of what design is (one particularly brave moment was presenting a burnt encyclopedia in an urn as his Exam Project in his final year), there needs to be more people like this in the world.
He's currently between jobs, so snap him up quick, if you think you can tame him!

Dan Mumford
It was Dan's birthday last Thursday, so as a belated birthday present I thought I'd post some of his amazing illustration work up online.
Rising to fame after creating the artwork for The Gallow's debut album Orchestra of Wolves, his work continues to go from strength to strength.
Here's one of my favourite pieces, a portrait of my good friend Francesca 'Bunny' Williams. I'm sure you'll agree, it's pretty sweet. I'm still gutted I didn't pester him enough for a screen print when these were first created.

Monster Snowball
Just to demonstrate how crazy it got in London today here's a giant snowball rolling down Hampstead Heath.
I don't think anyone will forget this snow fall in a hurry!

Brody's Back!!
I'm a bit excited that Brody Dalle's back. For those of you that need a bit more information than just a name, Brody Dalle has been a major figurehead for girls in punk rock for well over a decade. Originally from Australia, Brody started her first punk rock band (Sourpuss) at the age of 16, during her time in this band she met and married Tim Armstrong from Rancid. Sourpuss disbanded and she then went on to start The Distillers. In 2002 Armstrong and Dalle divorced, Brody then encrypted their gritty breakup into The Distillers final album, the seminal 'Coral Fang'. The Distillers ended, and Brody regained happiness by finding her current husband Josh Homme (the front man from the amazing Queens of the Stone Age), and lots of people assumed she'd disappeared, having babies and being wife-y happily ever after, until now!
So after a few years of absence she's back with her new band Spinnerrette. Although on first listen the band doesn't have anywhere near as much as bite and grit as The Distillers once had, my ears really pricked up when I heard this Adam Freeland remix of their track Sex Bomb.
Check it out!

It's Blitz!
I'm really excited that we're potentially only a few months away from the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, which we now know will be titled "It's Blitz". Anyone who's looked at the live section of my website may realize why I'm a particularly big fan of this band.
To celebrate I thought I'd post this...
Enjoy!
