Show My Ass

New promo for Dominique Young Unique.

Fresh from Tampa, Florida. This promo was shot in December last year. I was second camera on the shoot that was spread over a day and a half during Dominique's first visit to the UK.

It was great to flex my live action muscles for a weekend, but only be involved in the shooting process.

Simone Ghilardotti took up the director's reigns on this documentary-style promo.

Great fun to be involved, and look out for more from Dominique in the near future... she's a hot girl!

RIP Jerry Fuchs

Today brings really sad news... Jerry Fuchs (drummer for !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Turing Machine, Maserati, and The Juan Maclean) has died at the age of 34 in a horrifically tragic accident.

According to the New York Post, Fuchs died after trying to leap from a freight elevator at a charity fund-raiser event in NYC on Saturday night.

Jerry Fuchs, 34, who drummed for West Coast dance-punk band !!! (pronounced "chk chk chk") and the Georgia-based psychedelic instrumental ensemble Maserati, tumbled five stories shortly after 12:30 a.m. inside 338 Berry St., cops said.

"It's a manual freight elevator, and it stopped somewhere above the fifth floor," said Buildings Department spokesman Tony Sclafani.

Sources said Fuchs and his pal opened the elevator door and attempted to jump the 3 to 4 feet separating the elevator from the fifth floor.

He fell and landed at the bottom of the shaft. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he died at 3:30 a.m.The friend landed safely, but a piece of Fuchs' clothing caught on the elevator, causing him to be yanked backward as he jumped, sending him swinging back into the crevice separating the elevator from the fifth floor.

So unbelievably sad.

Reading Festival

Having to give up both my Glastonbury and Bestival tickets this year, this Sunday is my only little gem of summer festival time I'll get to experience this year.
However, due to the nice people at Directors Notes I'll get to do so for free (check it out! I'm kind of opening the festival (film wise) - I don't know whether this is a good thing or not, considering usually at festivals, the lower down the bill, the shitter you are, but hey, at least I'm there!). They're running a film tent ever night at the festival, and tonight they'll be showing my promo for Moray McLaren "We Got Time". I could have gone to the festival today, but instead I did a little swap with Kristofer Strom (whose promo for "Animals" by Minilogue is being shown on Sunday), and I'm going to go on and see the likes of...Radiohead, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metronomy, Passion Pit, Adam Buxton, Jeffery Lewis, and The XX (to names just a few) ALL in one day!
Plus, if last year's anything to go by, the crowd should be one of the liveliest in the UK. Exhausting, but fun. Awesome.

Of course, this isn't my first time at Reading Festival...



... OK, so what you can't really see here is the 21 year old me, walking onstage in a big black wig (I was supposed to be Nick Zinner) and fucking up my words infront of 50,000 people. Yes, I have the footage from the BBC broadcast, and no, I'm not going to put it online.
BUT what I am going to do is this! Forgive me, but this is still the HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE! so I'm gonna milk it 'til the cows come home...

I got really into The XX's debut album (entitled "XX") this weekend, and I reccommend you check it out ASAP.
Hopefully I'll get to see them this weekend at the Reading Festival as well.

Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra

Crazy. Just crazy. Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra have just provided my ears with something so awesome and refreshing, it's just blown me away; a beatboxing orchestra creating a human sampler! Oh yes.
Half way through this video (when the female lead vocals come in) I realised that one of my school friends is part of the vocal orchestra! (Alyusha, the one with the awesome vocal chords) AMAZING!
Christ, this is nuts...

Voltaic

Last week I treated myself to the 3 vinyl, 2 CD, 2 DVD package of Bjork's newest musical offering "Voltaic".
As anyone who caught her live during her 2007/08 Volta tour, Bjork was on top form in the live arena - a stunning voice, and a roller coaster of a live show - jumping from heartbreaking ballads to stomping renditions of her dance-orientated hits.
Voltaic captures every angle of this tour beautifully, but mainly focuses on how much Bjork reworks her songs for a live interpretation. The vinyl version can be got for a bargain £35 on Amazon at the moment (it really is a bargain considering what you get), so snap it up now before the offer runs out/Amazon realize their mistake (rrp = £60!!!)

Glastonbury

Well, aren't I a lucky boy. Growing up in rural Somerset just keeps on throwing up surprises.
I grew up in a city called Wells (I say city, it's actually a small town, but it has a Cathedral - it's officially the smallest city in England), and Wells is 3 miles away from Worthy Farm in Pilton i.e. the site of the Glastonbury Festival.
Local residents are able to get hold of Sunday tickets for the festival (tickets that are un-obtainable for the rest of the world), and one of my family friends rang me last week to say he had a spare one! Of course I grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Sunday also happens to be my birthday, so I will be spending the first day of my 24th year on this earth dancing to the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bat For Lashes, Bon Iver, We Have Band, Ladyhawke, Frankmusik, Peaches, Nick Cave, Prodigy, and (of course) the triumphant return of Blur in a field back in the shire, all for £30 (normal weekend tickets cost a stonking £180 - hense why I couldn't afford to just go like a normal punter).
Words can not describe my joy, but maybe this can...



Right, I'm off to Paddington to catch a train (with a massive grin on my face)
