Fantastic Mr Fox Trailer

It's here! Finally!! The trailer for Mr. Fox.
As you can tell from my previous posts, I'm pretty excited about this one! Highlights include sock balaclavas and cotton wool smoke. However, the trailer's so fast-passed it's really difficult to actually digest the art direction. However, it really does give an indication of what this is gonna look and feel like when it's out there (and how the script's gonna read - it all sounds great to me).
With the movie due in mid-October, there's only a few more months to go!

The Bed Sitting Room

Properly off-the-wall comedy from Spike Milligan. I watched this last night with my Grandad, and it was great that we were both able to appreciate the (at times) challenging humour. It's worth it just for Assheton Gordon's art direction - it's absolutely stunning. Completely bizzarre even by today's standards, to think that it was made in 1969 with a million pound budget (whoah!), this really is a lost gem, and a classic waiting to be rediscovered.
For more info click here
BIG thanks to Noah Harris for winging this my way.

MGMT - Kids

Opening BUG on Friday night, this is the new one from Ray Tintori. It's been around for a month, but (shamefully) due to my short attention span I think I missed it the first time round because I couldn't sit through the minute long introduction.
PLEASE DO, because what follows is a glorious promo. Look out for the brilliant Joanna Newsom playing the role of mum. Please note... no children were disturbed in the making of this video! Honest!

NEW PROMO ALERT

Hello!
I've got a new piece of work unleashed on the world today. It's the new music promo for the brilliant Little Boots and her new single Remedy.
It got an exclusive online release via the BBC today. Check it out...

N.B. For some reason the BBC have chosen to compress the video really badly. If you can hold on until Monday I'll have a full-res version on my website

Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra

Crazy. Just crazy. Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra have just provided my ears with something so awesome and refreshing, it's just blown me away; a beatboxing orchestra creating a human sampler! Oh yes.
Half way through this video (when the female lead vocals come in) I realised that one of my school friends is part of the vocal orchestra! (Alyusha, the one with the awesome vocal chords) AMAZING!
Christ, this is nuts...

Created by the super awesome Ron Winter; Play away to your hearts content; with the best selection of samples I've ever heard, this is pretty smart.

David O'Reilly Does U2

Here's David O'Reilly's new video for U2. I think O'Reilly's done some of the most innovative and exciting work in animation the past few years. A winning combination of truely individually style and clever narrative are a very difficult thing to find all in one person.
As a little aside, I will be going to see him talk at BUG this Friday at the BFI, my stopframe video for We Have Band will also be shown that evening! VERY exciting.

Nez

Nez's new promo for Kid Cudi (feat. Kanye West and Lady Gaga) has been knocking around the Colonel Blimp office for the past week; desperate to break out, and now it's loose!
Nez has really raised the bar with this one. Friggin' awesome.

OWLS

On the same note as Marco Brambilla's Civilization which I posted this time last week, this offering from Sportsday Megaphone/OWLS is pretty nifty. Beautifully complex.

Chris Packham References The Smiths

Dear god, this is actual genius. THIS is what we pay our license fee for, it just gets better and better. Obviously, if you're not a fan of The Smiths this may be lost on you a bit, but otherwise sit back and enjoy!

Massive thanks to Rhys Jones for sending me this one.

Fox Update

A while ago I went to the set of Wes Anderson's first animated feature "Fantastic Mr Fox". I was super excited to be on a set of a Wes Anderson film, let alone see an animation set on that scale!
Well, the first few stills have appeared online, so here's a little glimpse of the cuteness that awaits us all in October! Wooop!

Voltaic

Last week I treated myself to the 3 vinyl, 2 CD, 2 DVD package of Bjork's newest musical offering "Voltaic".
As anyone who caught her live during her 2007/08 Volta tour, Bjork was on top form in the live arena - a stunning voice, and a roller coaster of a live show - jumping from heartbreaking ballads to stomping renditions of her dance-orientated hits.
Voltaic captures every angle of this tour beautifully, but mainly focuses on how much Bjork reworks her songs for a live interpretation. The vinyl version can be got for a bargain £35 on Amazon at the moment (it really is a bargain considering what you get), so snap it up now before the offer runs out/Amazon realize their mistake (rrp = £60!!!)

Diana The Musical

From a few years ago now, but my good friend Rupert Dannreuther has recently dug out this BBC report on his outstanding University show - Diana The Musical.
This is ripped off his Facebook, and I've stuck it up on Photobucket, although let's hope it doesn't get taken down (apparently the BBC pulled this report off the internet the last time it appeared online).
Rupert is currently looking for people to get involved (cast/crew/music/design/costume/marketing/groupie) in Diana The Musical 2 - The Return of the King
(oh yes, a certain pop legend's gonna get a comedy homage).

Dead dead dead! MJ's NOT DEAD!

PS - don't you just love local news

Terri Timely

I know this one's been doing the rounds quite a lot recently, but Terri Timely's new short film "Synesthesia" is a friggin' awesome. I got reminded that I hadn't posted it up on the blog after listening to St Vincent's new album. If you haven't seen Terri Timely's video for "Actor Out Of Work" CLICK HERE - you need to watch that now, but watch Synesthesia first.

Civilization by Marco Brambilla

This is pretty friggin' insane!

"Civilization, a video mural created for the new Standard hotel in New York City, depicts a journey from hell to heaven interpreted through modern film language using computer-enhanced found footage. This epic video mural contains over 300 individual channels of looped video blended into a multi-layered seamless tableau of interconnecting images that illustrate a contemporary, satirical take on the concepts of Heaven and Hell. "

BIG thanks to the wonderful Chris Pell for sending me a link to this one

Pride

Now, it's not very often that I get politically minded, but tomorrow is an important day, and I feel as if I should use my blog just to say a little thing about it.
The right to be openly gay is an issue that shouldn't be taken for granted. It is a basic human right for people to not be afraid of who they are, or who they love, and yet there are still literally thousands of people on this planet that are still struggling against this inner battle due to prejudice, discrimination, mis-education, and (in certain countries) the law.

I'm not talking about sex or life style, I'm just talking about is the freedom for a person to say how they feel.

It's important to realise that no person can choose who they fall in love with, or which gender they are attracted to, and not being provided with an outlet to openly talk about those feelings can become like a ticking time-bomb. For a closeted person, those three words "I am gay" still holds the (sometimes very real) potential of their whole world crumble around them. By saying those three words, they still face the very real risk of loosing the love and support of their parents, family, and friends, and it really shouldn't be that way.
The pressure of living a closeted life creates an every day struggle for thousands of people around the world; of society vs. sexuality, and it can create an inner conflict that can drive them to deep depression, or even suicide.

This needs to stop.

Please show your support and open acceptance of LGBT people by marching at this year's London Pride.

Weightless Marriage

A couple proved their were head over heels in love during their wedding by getting married in zero gravity. Noah Fulmore and Erin Finnegan floated around as they became the first couple to tie the knot while weightless.

They were married on a special flight that simulates the zero gravity experienced by astronauts on space walks. The couple paid more than £10,000 to have their wedding in a converted Boeing 727 jet that undertakes roller coaster-style dives. As the jet plummets, passengers inside the padded cabin experience weightlessness.
