Glastonbury

Well, aren't I a lucky boy. Growing up in rural Somerset just keeps on throwing up surprises.
I grew up in a city called Wells (I say city, it's actually a small town, but it has a Cathedral - it's officially the smallest city in England), and Wells is 3 miles away from Worthy Farm in Pilton i.e. the site of the Glastonbury Festival.
Local residents are able to get hold of Sunday tickets for the festival (tickets that are un-obtainable for the rest of the world), and one of my family friends rang me last week to say he had a spare one! Of course I grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Sunday also happens to be my birthday, so I will be spending the first day of my 24th year on this earth dancing to the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bat For Lashes, Bon Iver, We Have Band, Ladyhawke, Frankmusik, Peaches, Nick Cave, Prodigy, and (of course) the triumphant return of Blur in a field back in the shire, all for £30 (normal weekend tickets cost a stonking £180 - hense why I couldn't afford to just go like a normal punter).
Words can not describe my joy, but maybe this can...

Right, I'm off to Paddington to catch a train (with a massive grin on my face)

Top Fun

My friend Martin Collins showed me this a few months ago (he plays the Russian pilot), and it's now finally arrived online!
This is a pilot sketch (no pun intended) created by the comedy collective Broken Biscuits.
Let's hope they get a series eh!

I love this site.
Send your photo in, and you'll get a hand drawn portrait back! (for a small fee of course).
Here are my 3 favourites. From the top; Gordon Ramsey, Prince, and the combined joy of the Terry Nutkins and Yul Brynner celebrity "eggheads".

We charge only £5 for people with BIG heads (Brian Blessed, Sam Fox)

On the very rare occassions when a head falls inbetween these two catagories, we will charge £4.50 - for a MEDIUM-SIZED head.

Just in case anyone feels like getting me one done for my birthday (I may actually cry with joy if that happened)

Chicken Head Tracking

So, I guess you learn a new thing every day. Chickens have an inbuilt ability to keep their heads stationary whilst the rest of their body moves! Pretty f**king cool, and they produce eggs as well!!
Brilliant

Thanks to Gabriel Aronson for sending me this one.

Campaign

I've entered the advertising world (there's no going back now!). Check out page 3 of this week's Campaign magazine (out tomorrow) to see a massive (and slightly stretched) still from the We Have Band promo.
I'm also the current Hotshot of the Shots website, and there's a nice little interview with me on the Creativity website.
Crazy times.

Mark Pavey

Mark Pavey is doing some great things at the moment. Not only does he produce some super awesome design work (like the print displayed below), he's also making some kick-ass websites.
It's so difficult to find someone with a good design sensibility, and the knowledge to build a website well.
Embrace him!

Jackalope

Aren't you lucky, here's a second piece of new work for you.
Created for my good friend James Studholme's "ever-title-changing-band" (they change their band name at every gig - for this one they're calling themselves Jackalope).
The gig's in support of the village of Ide's community shop; an essential part of this small Devon community, and an essential cornerstone of village life, it's now being funded and run by the village locals as a combined effort to sustain the village's self-sufficiency. It's a very good cause, and should be an awesome gig.

We Have Promo!

Good morning everyone!
So, my newest promo for We Have Band has officially been unleashed onto the world.
Shot over a 2 and a half day period, this was a bit of an epic undertaking. All shot using real face paint, and a lot of patience, we see the band members descending into an increasingly messy state as the music continues to get darker and darker.
A big thumbs up to the band (Darren, Dede and Tom) for being super awesome about us painting on their faces for approx 32 hours!

Brighton Graduate Show

So, it's that time of year again... it's the graduate shows.
I'm going to try and pop down to the Brighton show sometime this week (it runs until Friday), and pay a visit to my old college.
I've just been checking out their graduate show website though, and dear GOD there are some killers.
Here's my pick of the bunch...

Just to remind you, I will be talking at See No Evil tonight, at the Bodhi Gallery, Brick Lane, London (as featured on this blog a few days ago).
Please come down and say hello. I will also be displaying my work from the promo ie. all the record labels, and all the record players - so you can see them work in real life.

Filthy Dukes

So, with a name like this, to be honest it took me a while to give this band a proper listen.
Although this market is completely over saturated with copy-cat bands at the moment, it doesn't mean that they're all bad, it just means that everyone and their mum seems to be playing synthesizers at the moment (not a bad thing - just an observation).
Anyway, enough about the state of electro-clash.
Being spurred on my the two awesome videos for this band ("This Rythym" by Colonel Blimp's very own lovely lady Sarah Chatfield, and "Messages" by Nicolas Randall) I gave the Filthy Dukes album a spin on Spotify the other evening.
This track really stood out. It's the title track from the album entitled "Nonsense In The Dark". With Orlando Weeks from The Maccabees taking the vocals, this beautifully crafted 6 and half minute track weaves like LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends" mixed with Chemical Brothers' "Chosen Path", and Orlandos voice is possibly the best I've ever heard it recorded.
Mmmmmm....

Leah Stewart

My good friend Leah Stewart has just put the finishing touches to her website, and the doors are open to her wonderfully illustrative world.
She has currently got her first solo show exhibiting at Topshop Oxford Circus (located on floor SB1, next to the Boutique department).
Go feast your eyes!!!

The Horrors

As I'm on a musical note today, I just wanted to post a link upto this.
I have been taken aback by how much The Horrors have changed in between albums. I never got into them and their debut, mainly because their I felt their untamed scream-filled riot seemed a bit forced and fake, and the media circus that erupted around them seemed a little unjust. Having said that, Sheena is Parasite, and Count In Fives were a bit rockin'!
However, haven been given some space to breath, and the pressure taken off, the band seemed to have blossomed with maturity. Farris has found a voice, and the guitarists have found the reverb button.
Their new album's a blinder! Creating a mix of physodelic 80s goth rock. Think The Cure, think Killing Joke, think Joy Division. Mmmmm... lovely. Here's my favourite track, Sea Within a Sea, found at the very end of the album.

Danananananananananananananaykroyd

I'm really enjoying them at the moment.

You can always win me over with scottish vocals.
Which reminds me!! ....

Ahhhh... Scotland.

I think he's my new favourite YouTube celebrity.
It's moments like this that make you realize how much happiness a webcam can bring to a lonely man's life.
